Belief Beyond Time
When Lazarus became sick, his sisters Martha and Mary, sent for Jesus. When Jesus heard the news, He stayed two days longer in the place where He was.
Jesus loved Lazarus, Mary, and Martha very much, but did not rush to be with them.
When Jesus arrived, Lazarus was dead and had been buried for four days. Martha went to meet Him and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
When you are 30 and single, 40 and single, or dare I say 50 and single, you may be tempted to challenge God’s timing. You wonder if it will be too late for children, too late for a 50 year romance, or too late to enjoy each other while you’re in the springtime of your life.
When we are facing times of sorrow, we want nothing more than for God to “show up and do something.” We want an overnight deliverance, but we must have more than 24 hours of faith in God.
Jesus told His disciples, “and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe“. They believed that Jesus could heal Lazarus, but once Lazarus died, their belief came to a halt.
That was their limit. Their faith in Jesus only went as far as what they had seen and heard. Some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?”
Everyday we must have belief beyond time. We have to put the stopwatches down and stop counting the years. We have to stop declaring what could have been if only Jesus was there on time.
Jesus went to tomb and Martha warned that the body of Lazarus would have an odor. It was hard getting past that Lazarus was dead for four days. Jesus reminded, that if you believe, you will see the glory of God.
Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth”. Then he who had died, came out of the tomb alive.
Are you watching the clock, counting down the days? How far are you willing to believe God for your hopes that seemed to have died long ago? If you have buried your dreams in a tomb, take Jesus there and only believe. He is the resurrection and the life.
