Overcoming The Sorrow… Day 9 – Be Made Whole

Be Made Whole

Because of the cohesive bonding that takes place in marriage, every aspect of you will affect your future mate.  Our physical wellness, emotional health, and our spiritual maturity will all play its part in the strengthening or weakening of the marriage.

be made wholeWholeness does not mean being flawless, but rather complete and mature in Christ.  We must address any struggles and unresolved issues that lie within us.

The single season is a wonderful time to focus on these things in order to be made whole, and become the best spouse that we can be. The issues of sorrow and discontentment should be addressed right now.

Many believe that their spouse will take all aspects of sorrow away.  When the love of their life comes along, all will be better than it is right now.  This mentality is unhealthy. One should never solely depend on another to come along and be all that they lack.  Frankly there are some issues that just won’t go away by wearing a wedding ring.

“But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female.  For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.  So they are no longer two, but one flesh.  Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mark 10:6-9 NIV)

The meaning of “one flesh” reveals the impact of unity in marriage.  Once a man and woman are joined in marriage, one directly affects the other.  Just like there is no way to divide an individual body without harming the body, there is no way to divide a husband and wife without harm.

With this in mind, it benefits the marriage for both individuals to achieve a healthy level of wholeness before saying “I do”.

Again, there is no such thing as a flawless person.  However, we should want to give our future mate the best of us, and we should not wait until marriage to live our best life.

To help us begin, pray and ask God to open your eyes and reveal where you need to mature and grow. God will then guide you the rest of the way to wholeness.
