Overcoming Sorrow Day 5 – Dance Like David

By Loveandgrace @loveandgrace20

Welcome to Day 5 of my 30 day blog series, “Overcoming the Sorrow of Being Single.” {Weekly blog postings will start again in February}

Dance Like David

Singing and dancing are a part of worship at many churches. But you don’t have to be a part of a dance ministry to dance before the Lord. You don’t even have to wait until you get to the house of the Lord to praise His name in the dance.

Let them praise his name in the dance; let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. (Psalm 149:3 KJV)

Find some open space or push your furniture back. Grab your ipod or your favorite Christian/Gospel channel on Pandora.

Let your head nod to some upbeat inspirations by Kirk Franklin or Jeremy Camp. To whatever style of music suits you, raise your voice, lift your hands, and dance. Crank up the stereo and rejoice!

How does praise heal our sorrow?

We were made to give God praise. It is our rightful place, so when we get there, we feel the comfort of home.

Praise creates a divine connection between us the presence of God. The tears fade away because He takes up residence in the midst of your praise. (Psalm 22:3) God makes your praise His throne.

Dance Like David 2

When we praise Him (in dance, or hymns, or adoration), we draw God near to us. Drawing God close also draws near His joy, His healing, and His deliverance.

Even in times of war, the children of Israel’s army where led by the singers and the musicians. Human reasoning can’t understand it, but as long as God’s presence is near, great things will happen

And David danced before the Lord with all his might…. (2 Samuel 6:14a ESV)

There is alway an occasion to dance like David danced. David declared to Michal, who despised him for dancing before the Lord,  “It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord-and I will celebrate before the Lord.”

When today is filled with grief, give Him praise, and let His powerful presence  heal your soul.

Watch Eddie James below and for 8 minutes and 32 seconds dance the dance of freedom with me! :)
