Marriage – the most important event in a woman’s life. People say marriage is decided in heaven and that you will meet ‘the one’ eventually. How will you know if he is the one? They never mention that segment to us, do they? The very definition of marriage says ‘union of two people as partners in a personal relationship’, and you know what, there is no age limit mentioned in it.
But for some reason, society keeps reminding us that if you don’t get married before 30, then you probably going to stay alone for the rest of our life, which is so not true. Who are you to impose your ideas on us?

You know what, I wanted someone to talk about this for a long time. But I never thought in a million years that of all the film industries, Kollywood would be the one to make a movie about it, given that it only makes male-centric movies. Oru Naal Koothu is just what women in their late 20s need, someone to tell ‘its okay, just keep doing what you do’.
Oru Naal Koothu, surprisingly, revolves around the life of three women who face the pressure of arranged marriage from their parents and society. Nelson Venkatesan has done an amazing job in capturing the sheer problems that most women go through in their late 20s. The star cast includes Nivetha Pethuraj, Riythvika, and Miya, who played their part very well.

This is not the first women-centric movie in Kollywood and also not the first one to talk about women and marriage problems. K. Balachander’s ‘Aval Oru Thodar Kathai’ portrayed some of these issues in 1974 and was flattered by a lot of critics and general audience, but it took almost 42 years to make another one.
While Aval Oru Thodar Kathai was great and we just could relate ourselves to the movie. But, Oru Naal Koothu, on the other hand, beautifully addresses the problems faced by today’s women and that’s what made it palatable among men. Basically, I want these other film industries to take a cue from Kollywood and start making women-centric movies. It really feels nice to see Tamil cinema experiment in such niche concepts.
Gone are the days when film industries would only use women as a prop in a movie.
Now, movies are made with women being the central focus. So, if you are like me and love to watch movies that shed light on our daily problems and make it interesting, you must watch Oru Naal Koothu. After all, women are the real superhero that society doesn’t talk about. One day they will and that day is not far.
