"The Orioles claimed right-handed pitcher Vance Worley on waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. To make room for Worley on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated right-handed pitcher Jorge Rondon for assignment.
Worley, who is 28, was 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 23 appearances with Pittsburgh, eight of them starts.
In six big league seasons, three with Philadelphia, one with Minnesota, and the last two with the Pirates, Worley is 31-28 with a 3.79 ERA.
Dan Duquette, the Orioles’ executive vice president of baseball operations said of Worley in a text message: “Solid dependable major league pitcher with good control…good fielder, keeps the ball down and in the ballpark.”
Worley’s best year came in 2011 when he was 11-3 with a 3.01 ERA with the Phillies. He appeared in two Division Series games that season.
Rondon was 0-1 with a 7.43 ERA in eight games with the Orioles. He was claimed on waivers from Colorado in May 10.
The Orioles will soon have to make room on the 40-man roster for Dylan Bundy, who is currently on the 60-day disabled list."
