TARGET: ‘Selfie’ & ‘Groupie’ Lovers
The Oppo event in Delhi last week was marked for 3 important developments – the launch of the ‘Selfie Expert’ Oppo F3 Plus, the announcement of Deepika Padukone as its new brand ambassador and the release of its new TVC featuring Deepika.
While the focus of the F1 series (the F1 Plus & F1 launched last year) of phones was stressed more on selfies, the F3 series is trying to bring the ‘group selfie’ into focus by working on the camera quality and new features.
Unlike the rest of the brands, the makers of Oppo is considering to build its presence both online and offline, which can be well one of its USP. Its primary USP is its dual front facing camera, on which the Chinese giant is banking heavily and thus playing safe on the selfie revolution that is taking the world by storm.
More about the Phone…
Though its metal-clad rear panel makes this phone look just like any other contemporary phones available in the market today in more or less the same price range, the front of the camera looks quite classy and sophisticated. The screen size is 6 inches, making it a perfect choice for anyone who uses a phone for reading or watching movies while on the go. In spite of it being this big (about 163 mm tall) it does not look bulky when carried in hand and would for sure add to your style quotient.
F3 Plus weighs 185gm, which some users might find it on a heavier side, but in my opinion is good enough for a phone of this screen size. It has a speaker, micro USB slot and a 3.5 mm audio jack at the bottom of the front panel. The fingerprint sensor is integrated together with the home button on the screen and the response time is really fast.
The resolution of the phone is 1920x1080p and comes with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 that ensures to protect the screen both from scratches and drop from a height of 1.6 mts.
F3 Plus is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor and comes with 4GB RAM. It offers 64GB storage capacity with expandable memory of up to 256GB. It also offers a dual-slot card tray that can hold two Nano 4G SIM cards or one Nano SIM card with a microSD card.
Its 4000 mAh battery when charged can give the user almost 36 hours of usage or even more when used moderately. The phone makes use of Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge technology that can charge a completely drained battery four times faster than standard batteries.
Overall, the phone is designed keeping a premium look in mind and looking at the price range, there is no denying the fact that it is made for the premium masses who love taking selfies and would now love to indulge in taking ‘groupies’ as well. Performance wise, the phone fares well than most of the smartphones, which is a good thing for anyone who is planning to buy this phone.
The Dual Front Camera wins brownie points…
Its biggest win however is the dual front camera that Oppo puts into this phone that serves literally dual purpose. While the 16 MP camera allows the user to take the perfect selfie (having built upon the technology offered by the previous ‘Selfie Expert’ F1s), the 8MP camera wide-angle lens that supports 120 degree of vision, allows more people to come inside the frame for a group selfie. The rear camera is co-developed with Sony, equipped with a customized IMX398 sensor for serious photography.
At the core of this camera is a 1/3-inch sensor, which helps increase light exposure and clarity of images. The large f/2.0 aperture allows for great depth-of-field effects.
The Smart Facial Recognition feature used in the phone will notify the user to switch on the ‘Group Selfie’ mode if there are more than three people in the frame. OPPO’s beautification editing software, Beautify 4.0 allows users to choose from various beautification modes and bring out favourable effects in the images.
Present at the event were the newly announced brand ambassador, Deepika Padukone and the ace celebrity photographer, Dabboo Ratnani who shared their experience with OPPO F3 Plus. Dabboo Ratnani on his part also shared a few tips on how to take that perfect selfie to the audience.
