London-based singer/songwriter (and all around bad ass bitch), Bebe Black is most certainly deserving of the "ONE TO WATCH" title. Black has one of those voices that you just can't get enough of. Blessed with versatile voice and impressive vocal range, Bebe Black could easily have had her pick of musical genres. Lucky for us, she opted for an edgy pop sound, mixing in elements of jazz, soul and rock, underscored with driving electro beats. Vocally and production-wise, Black's latest single, "I'll Wait," recalls Sia and Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine), doing away with the heavy EDM influence heard on previous releases like the dubstep-drizzled (amped-up) Lana Del Rey-esque "Never Forget" and the PHENOMENAL "Deathwish." Taken from her forthcoming Columbia Records debut album, "I'll Wait" will be released in the UK October 27th.
Among Black's musical influences; Courtney Love, 80s/90s Madonna, Siouxsie Sioux and Kate Bush - all of whom are heard in her music and reflected in her image. A former fashion student hailing from Dorset (in South West England, along the English Channel), Black's point of view and spunky personality come through, not only her music but also through her style and artwork. Her FANTASTIC "Deathwish" EP was released back in January to critical acclaim and massive UK radio support from influential DJs including Sara Cox, Steve Wright, Jo Whiley and Janice Long. The stunning Magnus Härdner-directed video for "I'll Wait" was released onto VEVO on August 25th and features Black singing and shedding layers until she's wearing nothing but a bathing suit, all against a drop-dead gorgeous scenic backdrop that includes a beach speckled with impressive-looking rock formations.
While in it's original form, the new single isn't dancey like Black's previous releases, DJs can't help but be drawn to her sound and lucky for us, "I'll Wait" includes an impressive remix package with contributions from Steve Pitron & Max Sanna, Karma Kid and Rack N Ruin. Pre-order "I'll Wait" (iTunes UK) and look out for the debut album, due at the beginning of next year. The videos for "I'll Wait," "Never Forget" and "Death Wish" are all below for your viewing pleasure.(#HopingAndPraying for some U.S. promotion as well at some point.)
