With the end of summer drawing near, stores are already showing fall fashion. While it may seem too early to think about sweaters, August often brings breezy evenings and opportunities to mix our cooler weather clothing into our wardrobe. Transition is also upon, that funky time in fashion when we don’t know what to wear and we often see people donning both coats and flip flops in the same outfit. During these times, the sweater can become our best friend. Today I decided to showcase some sweater outfits, using this piece from Anthropologie to demonstrate how you can easily transition this sweater from late summer to early winter with five easy looks.

For a wear-now look, this sweater can be worn with khaki capris, gold sandals and a bright handbag, like the orange one I am using here. The outfit manages to say summer while still keeping you warm if you need an additional layer.

In addition to casual, you can also take this sweater to work. Playing off the colors found in the sweater, the outfit is finished with a metallic pump, a grey handbag and tortoise earrings.

During transitional times, layering is important. In this outfit, I layered a white button down under the sweater and added a blazer to be worn as an outerwear piece. When you layer, you can remove components depending on temperature and can wrap the sweater over the blazer or remove the jacket and still look pulled together. With this outfit, instead of a pair of boots, a strappy pair of open-toed shooties are a smart alternative for those times when you’re not quite ready to wear boots just yet.

A sweater like this lends itself well to a pair of casual jeans. An informal sweater and jeans outfit can still look polished and sophisticated if the right components are brought in to finish the look. Here, a pair of metallic ballerina flats, a versatile gold tote bag and some gold jewelry, keep the look casual yet coordinated.

As you move into the colder months, this sweater will continue to serve you well. Layering remains a key part of the equation, and I chose a pair of boots and leggings and finally finished the outfit with a drapey cardigan in grey and a tan pashmina wrap. By simply using the colors found in the sweater, a elegant combination of grey, tan and black is created.
