On the Day I Was Born (‘Life’s a Journey’ Nostalgia Link-Up, Week 83)

On the day I was born, Stansted airport was given the official go-ahead. Fascinating eh?

I share a birthday with Katharine Hepburn (not a birth year, OBV.) and Steve Winwood. Perry Como died on my birthday and I didn’t even go to the funeral. It’s a momentous date in the calendar.

When my children were born I got a copy of the Times newspaper for that day.Of course, I have never actually read them, for indeed that was not their intended purpose. I stored them in a plastic bag (long since disintegrated – so much for non-biodegradable) and popped them each into a drawer, then promptly forgot about them.

When we moved house three years ago they resurfaced. A little yellowed but still a fundamentally black and white record of two ordinary yet life changing moments in time. Although it seems I picked a rather unfortunate day to give birth to number one son. Not really the motherhood-and-apple-pie nostalgia I was hoping to re-live each time I gazed upon the headline….
