This Old Fashioned Gingerbread recipe is perfect for the holidays. The delicious scent of cinnamon and ginger will fill your home and it's warm, moist taste will be sure to have you going back for more. It only lasts a couple of days in my house! The recipe is just right on it's own but if you want to add even more flavor to it, try mixing in some slivered almonds or raisins.
Ingredients
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup molasses (Don't have this on hand? Try substituting 3/4 cup brown sugar)
3/4 cup hot water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
Method
Heat oven to 325ºF. Grease and flour bottom and sides of square pan, 9x9x2 inches (or use standard loaf pan).
