I’ll start off by apologizing for last week’s absence of this column. It doesn’t happen very often that we miss a week of our suggested shows. Now that that’s over, I can tell you will full confidence that this week is an absolutely kickass week for indie music here in New York City. Many of the bands that played SXSW two weeks ago are finally making their way up to our city. Headlining big venues is nothing new for of Montreal (pictured above) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., but this week marks the first time bands like Youth Lagoon and First Aid Kit have made the jump from great small rock clubs (Mercury Lounge, Cameo Gallery, Glasslands Gallery, etc.) to the much larger Webster Hall and Bowery Ballroom. In addition to those incredible acts, make sure to watch out for Poliça, Kishi Bashi (opening for and playing in of Montreal), Cloud Nothings, AU, Howth, and St. Lucia.
Thanks for checking out our suggested New York City indie concerts list! We won’t list everything that’s going on — just a short collection of great shows happening in our city that you shouldn’t miss this week (this Saturday there’s so many great shows I sort of got carried away). And to make it as easy for you as possible, you can listen to all the bands and sometimes get some free MP3s!
