Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe has said that neither Microsoft nor Sony were ever in the running to buy the company.
“If we were going to partner with somebody, because this is a long road ahead, we were thinking the whole time that we wouldn’t partner with Microsoft or Sony,” Iribe told the audience at BusinessInsider‘s Ignition conference.
Oculus thought partnering with either company would be too limiting. Presumably this refers to restricting the potential audience as well as Oculus’s possible applications.
“This really needs to be a new platform,” Iribe said.
