The County of San Bernardino’s Human Services Department extends an invitation to veterans and artists for an upcoming art show that plans to honor and immortalize military veterans through artwork.
“World of Art: Honoring our Men and Women in Uniform” will celebrate the service and sacrifice of military veterans while providing a showcase for local artists, who will be able to offer their art for sale at the event. There will also be a showcase of culinary creations by students from San Bernardino Valley College.
San Bernardino Community College District and San Bernardino County Veterans Affairs are teaming up with other local schools, veterans service organizations and the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System to host the veteran-centered art show Nov. 6, 2013, at the San Bernardino Hilton Hotel. Event planners will consider submissions from artists throughout the Inland Empire and nearby Desert and Mountain communities for display at this first annual art show.
“This event is open to both civilian and veteran artists and it will be a great opportunity for them to display their talent while providing an avenue for communication,” said San Bernardino County Veterans Affairs Director Bill Moseley. “Civilian artists (those who have not served in the military) will be able to express their appreciation for the many veterans who have served our great country, while veteran artists will be able to visually communicate to the public their unique experiences resulting from military service.”
The event is expected to draw community support.
“The San Bernardino Community College District is very proud to co-sponsor this art show dedicated to our veterans. The local artists in our community value the bravery and selflessness of our former soldiers and has come together to honor them through their creative talents,” said Bruce Baron, San Bernardino Community College District Chancellor. “We hope this will be an annual event and the community comes out to support our great artists and our veterans.”
All submissions should celebrate or exemplify American military service in some way (without being graphic in nature) to be considered for display in the Art Show. To be included in the exhibit, art composed of any visual medium (painting, drawing, sculpture, wood carving, mosaic, etc.) must be submitted for consideration by October 28 at 4 pm.
