After watching the Bears grind up the Steelers, my first thought was, I can remember when the Steelers had a roster full of solid, disciplined players. Those teams didn't turn the ball over at nearly the same rate that they created turnovers. Last night Ben Roethlisberger was responsible for 4 turnovers himself which led to 17 Chicago points.
On Defense, the tackling at times was atrocious and often, players looked out of position to make plays. On consecutive 3rd and long plays on the Bears final scoring drive, Jay Cutler ran for 12 yards and a first down and Ike got beaten deep along the far sideline by Brandon Marshall. In both instances, guys were caught out of postion to be able to make the play.
I thought that the special teams coverage units did a solid job containing Devin Hester, who I thought for sure would bust a big one last night and more or less got nothing.
Antonio Brown had a night last night with 9 catches for 196 yards and a touchdown and looked like a number one receiver against a pretty good defense. The one handed touchdown catch was a thing of beauty and concentration. When you get him the ball, good things usually happen.
The running game showed some improvement as Felix Jones has 34 yards on 7 carries while Jonathan Dwyer ran hard and blocked well, so what does Tomlin have against him?
What I took, overall, away from this game is that the Steelers are in trouble and not nearly as good as some have made them out to be. We very well may be looking at a 5 or 6 win team that really needs to get back to the fundamentals and learn some discipline and desperate injection of real talent at various positions.
