I have to admit, I have recently become a little obsessed with buying expensive eyeshadows. I spent a lot of money on cheap eyeshadows in the past that weren't pigmented enough to show up on my eyes the way they looked in the pan.
I got tired of buying shadows that looked "dusty" on my lids rather than just pretty and smooth. So I spent money on expensive eyeshadow palettes, which proved to worth the price tag.
But for the past few weeks, I have been testing out NYC New York Color's IndividualEyes Custom Compact in Union Square, which is for brown eyes. This "all-in-one" compact, according to the NYC New York Color website, is supposed to give you everything you need for a complete eye look with four "vibrant" colors designed for your eye color.
Before you open the palette, the packaging indicates that the lightest shadow should be used to highlight the brow, the lighter brown is for the lid, and the darker brown and purple/maroon color are for the crease.
The eyeshadows' color pigmentation is pretty good and the colors are nice for everyday use. The first time I tried out the shadows, I used them according to the palette's suggestion, but after that I just used the shadows however I wanted. I haven't really used the lightest color because I just don't like it that much, but I do really like the other colors in the compact.
The palette also includes a primer and illuminator, both of which I really like. The primer is a little light for my lids, but I have actually been using it for highlighting and contouring my face. In fact, I have been using the matte brown eyeshadow for contouring the hollows of my cheeks, sides of my nose and jaw line. And I use the primer and illuminator to highlight my nose and cheek bones.
The highlighter is my absolute favorite part of this palette. It's so creamy and smooth. In addition to highlighting my face, I also put the illuminator on the inner corners of my eyes and in the arch of my brows. Doing this really opens up my eyes and gives my eye color a pretty pop.
I swatched the colors on my arm to give you a better idea of how the colors look on skin. For the most part, all of the colors are true to the way they look in the pan.
The first four colors (left to right) are the shadows. Then I swatched the primer and illuminator, the last two colors (left to right). My favorite shadow is the middle brown color -- It's a golden brown with shimmer. And you can see why I like the illuminator so much in this picture. It is frosty and it definitely catches the light.
This palette is for brown eyes, but they have this compact in different colors based on eye color. They also have this palette in a smokey version for each eye color. This product is only $4.99 and you can find it at most chain drugstores.
Have you tried this palette? Will you?
