“We’ve made Skype available on computers, mobile phones, TVs and even games consoles. Expanding to different platforms has helped us grow to over 2 billion daily minutes (that’s over 33 million hours) of voice and video calls.” Jonathan Watson, at Skype wrote on a blog post. “Now, not only can Skype be used on just about any screen you lay your hands on, but you can also enjoy Skype on a browser.”

Now you can login to Skype.com to start chatting right away from your browser. However, you will be required to install a small plug-in to start making voice calls. Skype team promises to improve the service to get rid of this plug-in requirement in the future.

Skype for Web works with all modern browsers, including Internet Explorer 10. Even though this allows users to easily make calls, Skype for Web comes with a few bugs and issues. It seems, making calls via Skype for Web takes a lot longer to ring another user. Mac users have also encountered some issues with battery consumption.
