Novatia: Discover

Dutch progressive rock quintet Novatia embrace the synth heavy version of the genre on their first full-length Discover, an album that could be mistaken for a long lost Eighties record. When compared with the Flow EP, their previous release, the band sounds less spontaneous. The compositions now have the complexity and composed segments that were hinted at in the past, but are in full bloom right now.

Most of it sounds smooth, but it's not schmaltzy and when the band is getting a bit too close to the mainstream guitar player Rindert Bul throws in a few choice notes to get them out of the comfort zone. Singer Joep Selen has grown as a front man and with new bass player Fabian van Dijk the tracks have a rock solid, gently swaying bottom end.

Novatia:
Joep Selen: vocals
Ingmar Kops: synth & piano
Rindert Bul: electric & acoustic guitars
Joost Lobbes: drums
Fabian van Dijk: bass
