Not Everyone You Lose is a Loss

By Jeska @WandererJeska

Sometimes friendships are great and are meant to last years and other times they’re not. Over the last 6 months I’ve come to realize that one of my friendships wasn’t meant to last and it wasn’t because there was a fight or anything, it was because we were meant to lead different kinds of lives. Our friendship was good but it was never great. I always had this inkling in the back of my head that constantly told me to never really open up to this person and honestly, I’m glad I listened. Something just didn’t feel just right. It was full of negativity and just signs that it was time for it to end for me.

So last night after a week long ordeal, they took back a present they gifted my oldest son for Christmas and my husband and I agreed it was time to cut ties. Things didn’t have to end the way that it did and maybe the friendship could have worked out in a different way but one thing is for certain, we lead very different lifestyles and last night’s behavior on their part was the final flag I needed to let it all go. I’m not angry or sad. Honestly, I feel relieved. I’ve learned that not everyone you lose is a loss.

Have you ever had to cut ties with someone and end a friendship? How did you go about it? Was it hard?
