“Nokia has connected billions of people around the world, and today we demonstrated how our portfolio is designed to connect the next billion people to great experiences,” Stephen Elop, CEO Nokia stated during the MWC announcement “Our new Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL smartphones primarily for growth economies; and our Lumia portfolio, which is where we introduce the greatest innovation and provide full compatibility with the Microsoft experience.”
Nokia X and Nokia X+
Packed in Nokia’s familiar Lumia design, new Android DualSIM handset, Nokia X comes with 4-inch 800 x 480 WVGA display, 3 MP camera, Dual-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 512 MB and a forked version of Android that supports Microsoft services such as OneDrive, Skype, Outlook.com and more.
Nokia X is an extremely affordable Android phone as it goes on sale at just 89 Euros. Multimedia-optimized Nokia X+ is basically an improved version of X, which has a microSD slot for more storage and will cost 99 Euros.
Nokia XL
For big-screen smartphone enthusiasts, Nokia XL sports a 5-inch IPS display with 2MP front-facing camera, in addition to all the specs of Nokia X. Nokia XL is priced at 109 Euros.
Since Nokia X phones doesn’t support Google Play, developers will have to upload their Android apps to Nokia’s own Android apps store. Users of these new phones will have to use this to download apps or they can use APK files to install apps on their own. Although, it’s likely for most of the Google Play apps to not function well with Nokia X devices since it runs a forked OS.
