‘No More Woof’ Allows Your Dog to Speak English

Posted on the 01 January 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

No More Woof consists of a headband with an electroencephalogram (EEG) connected to a Raspberry PI computer and a big loudspeaker. So, when your dog think about something like “Man, throw me that bone”, the EEG will detect and send the signals to the processing unit to recognize the thought pattern, allowing the dog to speak out loud. Sounds simple but there’s more to it than it seems.

“Among the patterns we have found are “I’m Tired”, “I’m excited” and possibly “I’m Hungry” and the clearly intense brain activity when a dog sees a new face, that we translate into: “Who ARE you?” the research team says on the project page.

No More Woof is far from complete. It’s still in development and that’s why the NSID decided to launch an  Indiegogo project to raise necessary funds for their research. Thanks to massive support from dog-lovers, they’ve managed to reach the $10k goal within just a few days. The research team plans to send out an early No More Woof capable of recognizing two to three dog thought patterns to the backers in April 2014.
