Some New York progressives (mainly supporters of Bernie) have decided that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is not progressive enough for them. They label Cuomo as an "establishment" Democrat, and they mean that as a slur. They want someone to replace him that is much farther to the left.
They have found a celebrity candidate they hope can do that -- Cynthia Nixon, one of the stars of the TV show Sex and the City. But her celebrity status is, so far, is not winning over many New York voters.
So far, four polls have been taken on voter preference among Nixon and Cuomo -- three by Siena College and one by Quinnipiac University. Nixon trails badly in all four polls. In the March Siena poll she trailed by 47 points, in the April Siena poll she trailed by 31 points, in the May Quinnipiac poll she trailed by 22 points, and in the June Siena poll she trailed by 35 points. Nixon seems to be stuck in the high 20's.
The state primary is not until September 13th, so there is time for this to change. Stranger things have happened in politics (like Trump actually getting elected). But three months is not an eternity. Nixon needs to start making up ground pretty soon.
Personally, I think this is going to be a pretty easy win for Andrew Cuomo.
