Nintendo’s new hardware is codenamed NX
Nintendo has confirmed today that it’s developing new hardware dubbed ‘Nintendo NX’.
The hardware was not specifically referred to as a console and was mentioned today in a press conference held in Japan. The same conference where Nintendo announced its partnership with mobile firm DeNA to bring games to mobile devices.
DeNA will also work with Nintendo on a new “membership service” that will work with existing hardware, mobile, PC, as well as the upcoming Nintendo NX.
“As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename ‘NX’,” said Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata. “It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year.”
Iwata added that the new membership will not be similar to Club Nintendo service. Instead, the service will cover multiple devices and “create a connection between Nintendo and each individual consumer regardless of the device the consumer uses.”
Not much is known about what the new hardware will entail just that it’s a “brand new concept.”
