A couple of weeks ago I had this mad craving for Japanese food so I asked my office mates if they wanted to try out one of the newer restaurants near our office, Nihonkai Tsukiji. (Of course they said yes, lol.)
We get an hour lunch breaks during Fridays (we get forty-five minutes the rest of the week) so to make the most of our time, we checked out the menu online and called our orders in a couple of hours before.
The restaurant’s decorator made the most out of the limited space all of the Tuscany restaurants get, by making sure to add in multiple special touches of Japan in the small space. There were cherry blossom trees, multiple colorful paper umbrellas and I definitely dig the huge banners on top of the kitchen.
The staff while, definitely quick and efficient, did surprise me a little bit. The food on the menu definitely was more on the pricier side than I was used to so for some reason I figured that it would be a bit of a fine dining experience. The ladies who assisted us, while in no way were disrespectful or rude, were a bit…brusque? I don’t know how to explain it, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.
We had an order of the staple California Maki, which seemed expensive on paper but these babies were huge and definitely very filling.
C had the Shoyu Ramen. I didn’t get to taste but she said that it was good.
Now because most of the people in our group were very indecisive, most of us decided to get their Makunochi Bento (aka the cheapest Bento Box available). It included a cup of Japanese rice, a bowl of miso soup, a huge slice of grilled salmon, two big chunks of sweet tomago egg, one full slab of tonkatsu and four huge slices of sashimi.
Everything on that bowl was very good, except for the tonkatsu, which was just average.
I’d definitely eat here again, that bento meal was super sulit.
