New Season's Market

By Healthhungry @Healthhungry
Today started out great!  My new Tuesday plan is going to include an early morning trip to my favorite grocery store; New Season's Market.  It is a market with diverse options(the most gluten free in town by far) and they are all about keeping it local.  Another thing I love?  They offer health insurance for part-time employees and their domestic partners!
New Season's MarketI had a friendly man help me find goat's feta, with vegetable rennet.  That's not as easy to find as you might think!  Most commercial feta is cow's milk - which doesn't agree with me as well as goat's feta.  And the rennet commonly used(unless it says otherwise) is calf stomach lining - no thanks!  If you want to be more conscious of the cheese your buying; look for vegetable or microbial rennet.  If you are thinking, "rennwhhaaa?" read more here...
New Season's Market Did I mention it's local?  I bought a bunch of frozen fruit that is from right here in the Willamette Valley!  Local, frozen - love it.New Season's Market Here you see a decaf(Stumptown local espresso) almond milk latte!(I don't know of anyone else in town who offers so many options for non-dairy peeps)  That's right, almond milk!  I am so treating myself to one of these babies on Tuesdays.  YUM!New Season's Market A latte without a yummy sweet something?  Not this girl... this was crumbly but so good!  A breakfast I've been missing - Tuesdays will soon become my new favorite day of the week!New Season's Market I had to get my green smoothie in; so I made it for lunch and drank it in front of my students.  It's fun to talk to them about green smoothies - I found out one of my students is even juicing right now!  We did bar graphs today about favorite foods; pizza, veggies, ice cream, fruit or burgers.  Guess what was most popular?  FRUIT!  I was a little shocked, and hopeful for them. :)  I voted for Ice Cream - honesty had to win out, but I hope someday soon it's something different...  Dinner was take-out from our favorite Thai place - but they forgot my tofu and cashews in my rice!!!  It was such a bummer, however - it was still scarfed up faster than I could snap a photo(I mean, it is Thai after all)New Season's Market Graham had a beer for dessert and I stuck to my plan, and had this.  O.M.G.  I have a new religion...New Season's MarketHail Merry is right!  This baby was raw and had 5 simple ingredients; Maple Syrup, Coconut oil, Dark Cocoa, Almond Flour, and Sea Salt.  With desserts like this, I need never go back...  I have struggled to make the best choices the past couple of days.  I feel emotional, irritable, and out of sorts.  Notice the "treats" sneaking in.  In shooting for moderation, I need to watch how often I choose foods like this, because though they are MUCH healthier than what I've been eating - they are still high in calories.
Focusing on the positive - they ARE MUCH BETTER than what I've been eating, and what I'd normally crave - and I have to say they are satisfying in a way that commercial food has never been.  Awareness, choices, and focusing on what I'm doing right, will get me so much further than feeling guilty over less than "perfect" days.  After all, life is about the journey!
I watched Biggest Loser tonight and the trainer said this to a man who had lost over 100lbs,. but wo was feeling upset about things; "Don't fall in love with an outcome, fall in love with the process."  I love it!  The outcome(goal weight) is not going to keep you motivated once you've reached it, but loving the process of taking care of yourself, eating to nourish your body, and being active will.
