Congress still has a miserable level of job approval among the general public. Only13% approve of the job Congress is doing, while a 56% majority disapproves.
And the public doesn't seem to have much hope for improvement in the near future. About 23% say they're optimistic that the Democrats and Republicans can get together to solve the nation's problems. But a whopping 64% say they are pessimistic that could happen.
At this point, I would have to agree with the pessimists -- and I see no reason why the Democrats should try to reach out to help the Republicans. After 8 years of obstruction by those Republicans, it is up to them to show they are now willing to compromise -- something I don't think they are interested in doing.
The pie charts show what the public thinks of the two parties in Congress. While they are not happy with either party, they are still more disappointed in Republicans than Democrats -- by about an 8 point margin.
These charts were all made using information in a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between March 26th and 28th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,271 registered voters), with a margin of error of 4 points.
