There's a new Beer Club in Perth so if you'd like to improve your knowledge of all things beer, head down to Northbridge Brewing Company. Held monthly, it's the perfect excuse to get together with mates and sample new small batch brews, both imported and created onsite by the NBC team.
Held on the Skydeck, it's an intimate venue where an eclectic mix of people come together to discuss beer and enjoy an entertaining night out.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I don't normally drink beer. Andrew, our host for the evening and a NBC brewer, was extremely knowledgeable and it was a lot of laughs comparing notes with the rest of the table, much like a wine tasting except with beer!
A quiz is on offer, which keeps you on track, and we learnt a lot about Gose beer and its history. Originally from Germany, this slightly sour wheat beer has an unusual saltiness with undertones of coriander. The beers we sampled were certainly different from your standard lager and a few favourites were discovered. The colour and smell of the beer varied greatly from one another and the addition of mango and passionfruit certainly gave the beer another dimension.
Spanning a little over two and a half hours, you certainly get bang for your buck with the night costing $25 per person. With 6 generous samples on offer throughout the night, we also got fed! January's offerings pairs surprisingly well with Japanese food, hence the Bento Box theme.
An entrée of Japanese inspired oysters; bento box and ice cream for dessert were on the menu. Although I'm not a fan of natural oysters, I'm told these were delicious and the sorbet that accompanied them was amazing.
I was impressed with the bento box - especially coming from a pub! The tempura style vegetables were light and crispy and the teriyaki beef was so tender. It's not a substantial meal but it definitely hits the spot. Dessert consisted of ice cream and Persian fairy floss. Not as sweet as your standard dessert but still a tasty end to the meal.
