New Music Spotlight featuring Seaway, The Trusted, Star Music, Mounties, and seas

We've got a fresh New Music Spotlight for you and this time around we've got music from Canada, the United States and the UK.

For your viewing and listening pleasure, I have included some pop-punk, rock, rap, and some indie rock.

Let's do this!

Artist: Seaway
Hometown: Oakville, ON
Genre: Pop Punk
Related Artists: My Chemical Romance, All Time Low, Blink-182
Song: Just What I Needed
Notes: If you're a fan of pop punk you have to give Seaway a listen. The Oakville-based band just released a cover of The Cars Just What I Needed, and they've hit this cover out of the park. Shot while the band hung out with friends at a karaoke bar, it's a fun rendition of a song that is on many people's karaoke lists. Like what you hear? They'll be wrapping up their tour this fall with a stop in Toronto on December 2nd. You can check out their tour dates here.

Artist: The Trusted
Hometown: Southend-on-Sea, UK
Genre: Rock
Related: Sam Roberts Band, Hollerado, The Beaches
Song: Cigarettes and Chandeliers
Notes: Guitar rock is here to stay and these lads from Southend are doing their very best to remind us. I've added Cigarettes and Chandeliers to our New Music Spotlight because it has an upbeat energy, great vocals, and the hook on this song is so good that when it ends, I have to play it again!

Artist: Star Music
Hometown: Ennis, TX
Genre: Rap/Hip Hop
Related Artists: Mick Jenkins, Isaiah Rashad, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q
Song: Sound The Same
Notes: Sound The Same brings catchy beats, lyrical flow and a look at how the music industry tries to use a one size fits all approach to artists. It's a mix of theatrical scenes with performance pieces which help to illustrate the message.

Artist: Mounties
Hometown: Vancouver
Genre: Indie
Related Artists: Hawksley Workman, Hot Hot Heat, Age of Electric
Song: De-Evolve Again
Notes: New music from Mounties. A song with a message, De-Evolve Again is a synth-driven track with a beautiful blending of voices. I hope there's a theatrical video in the works.

" Mounties is the musical union of three industry veterans in Workman, Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat and Fur Trade, and Ryan Dahle of Limblifter and Age of Electric. The group's upcoming release is a curious and compelling mishmash of ideas, eras, and experimentation. It inevitably includes the bits of genius that made its predecessor - and each member's individual projects - worth hearing and takes it all to new heights and new dimensions. Vocal melodies, wobbly vintage synth lines, and staccato guitar leads seemingly sprout from nowhere yet never steal focus from the melodies and emotions they support. "

Artist: seas
Hometown: Toronto
Genre: Indie Rock
Related Artists: Moneen, Dinosaur Jr., Boys Night Out
Song: All That I've Forgotten
Notes: This is a guitar-driven performance video by Toronto-based band seas. Made up of three members of Moneen (Chris Hughes, Erik Hughes and Peter Krpan), and Mike Bolt and Adrian Mottram. I love the look and the feel of the video for All That I've Forgotten.

"Though both the words and music sometimes skew towards darker waters, Cursed nonetheless offers a cathartic release of tension and toxicity, and that's as powerful for the listener as it is its makers. Lyrically, it's an antidote to adversity; musically, it's a whirlwind of energy and emotion, ebbing and flowing like the tide for an unparalleled musical experience."
