Artist: Kane Brown (ft. Nelly)
Hometown: Chattanooga, TN
Genre: Country
Related: Dan + Shay, Ryan Hurd, Michael Ray
Song: Cool Again
Notes: Nelly might be the biggest country music fan in the world. He's back again as a featured artist on a country song (Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line) and this time Kane Brown's Cool Again is the vehicle for the St. Louis legend. The summer jam follows a sad dude wishing he could have his girl back, but with the kind of upbeat flow that stops it from being depressing. This is a fun listen - with Nelly's verse adding an extra smile to my face.
Artist: Classified
Hometown: Enfield, NS
Genre: Hip Hop
Related: K-OS, Shad, Swollen Members
Song: Pick Your Poison
Notes: Classified is in rare air as one of the most celebrated Canadian hip hop artists of his generation. And the east coast rhymer and writer gets heavy with a dose of reality of addictions (the ones we vilify and the ones we don't) in life. Pick Your Poison is another good drop from one of Nova Scotia's finest. Turn it up.
Artist: Delaney Jane
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Genre: Pop
Related: bülow, Emily Vaughn, L Devine
Song: Want You Now
Notes: Delaney Jane is kicking off a new chapter with Want You Now. The sparkly pop single is a fun listen that hits all the right spots. In her own words she says the "song was inspired by what life was like out on tour, far away from the one I love. Anyone who's ever been in any kind of long distance relationship knows what I'm talking about; it's not enough to talk or text, sometimes you just need to feel their body next to yours." Give it a listen.
Artist: LØLØ
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Genre: Pop
Related: DYLN, Sophie Rose, Claire Ridgely
Song: Hate U
Notes: LØLØ's here with a breakup anthem for anyone needs one - or just likes them at all. Hate U is the next step for the Toronto pop singer, and the second single from her upcoming EP, Permanent Damage. And if there's more coming on the EP that sounds like Hate U and her previous release, Dead Inside, I'm all in.
Artist: Emi Jeen
Hometown: Montreal, QC
Genre: Alt - Pop
Related: A.K.A.,
Song: Runaway
Notes: Emi Jeen says she started writing the lyrics to Runaway in a moment of wanting to escape reality. Two years later she went back to the song and finished it as an expression of those feelings. The Montreal pop artist adds, "It's okay to start all over again and to take risks. I hope Runaway serves as a reminder that it's never too late to change things around and move on and take a different path."
