SACRAMENTO – Recent government restructuring such as the top-two primary and new 12-year term limits have provided motivation for exploring new advocacy strategies.

In 2014, the California Legislature will see its highest increase in new legislators in years.

To give city officials tools to better understand legislative candidates in their districts and their stances on issues important to cities, the League will be distributing questionnaires to legislative candidates in March 2014. The questionnaire is designed to provide a glimpse into candidate views on issues that are important to city function, growth and vital services to residents. Questionnaire topics include local control, economic development, the state/local fiscal relationship, outsourcing, realignment and medical marijuana.

The intent of this resource is not only to aid city officials in making endorsements in this election cycle but to hold legislators accountable post-election.
