New Google Docs Add-Ons Make Microsoft Office Obsolete

Posted on the 14 March 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

New Add-on stores are available for Docs or Sheets, separately. And they can also be accessed directly via an opened document by hitting the “Get add-ons” in the Add-ons menu. Some of the useful add-ons for Google Docs includes a thesaurus, templates, charts, Google translate, Google Maps and there’s even an add-on for sending your Docs as a Fax. All these add-ons are free to use and can be activated instantly with a single click.

While the new add-on stores are in preview mode, Google welcomes developers to start making new add-ons for Docs and Sheets. They just need to get their prototype approved by Google before launching. All the tools and API’s are now available for all.

This new add-on store actually makes Microsoft Office look like something from stone age. I moved to using Google Docs for work a long time ago, but I always had MS Office installed just for making advanced documents with templates and charts. Now, thanks to this new add-on store, I can finally get rid of MS Office once and for all. I think Microsoft will have to come up with something better than slashing prices for their Office 365 to save their software package from becoming obsolete.
