This next gallery entry literally communicates the message of global warming. Here you can see the street art of Néle Azevedo, who is a sculptor artist from Brazil. This work, called Melting Man, was set up in Berlin, Germany, on September 2, 2009. On Néle's website she says that she does these interventions in public spaces in different cities and countries with hundreds of ice sculptures, which are taken to central places of cities with the help of the passers-by, and are left there to melt. She also says that "the sculptures are tiny men and women, 20 cm tall, placed on stairways. The urban intervention is called “Minimum Monument”, because its meaning is tied up to the concept of the monument – it is an anti-monument". According to The Telegraph, this "scheme was hosted by the WWF and designed to remind people of the melting Arctic Ice".
The street art communicates the fact that global warming impacts everyone and that our time to solve the problem is running out. Much like my previous gallery post, this pieces of art truly has a sense of urgency to it, something that causes people to stop and think about the actual dire situation we are all in. Enjoy the photos and don't forget to check out the artist's site here for more!
