- Keep the Momentum
Through a record-setting comeback, a well-placed bye, a conference cupcake, and a gritty home win over a top 10 team, the Huskers have built themselves quite the upswing in momentum.
The mission is to keep that momentum from turning into a pendulum that drops Nebraska back down to its post-Wisconsin slump.
It’s incredibly unlikely Northwestern will spoil the Huskers’ charmed stretch. The following weeks, with back to back road games against Michigan and Penn State, are fine candidates to rain on the Big Red parade.
Nebraska must not forget this October – and that includes the Wisconsin shellacking – because it’s what fired them up and put them back in the top 10, and in control of their own destiny in the Legends Division. Northwestern should be easy pickings, offering a chance to improve even more on defense and continue to find rhythm on offense.
Then Nebraska faces its big road tests. Do these Huskers have the mettle to walk into the Big House in Ann Arbor and deliver a loss to a good team with a great quarterback in front of what is sure to be a raucous crowd? Can they do the same in Happy Valley, a place that was not so kind to Nebraska the last time around?
If Tim Beck continues to manage offensive game plan well and the Pelini brothers show that the Blackshirts are back – which won ‘t truly happen until November 12 against Mr. Robinson – then Nebraska will more than earn its shot at all the marbles.
It didn’t seem possible one month ago, but that was before the Huskers heated up. They need to keep crank that heat up in cold, unfamiliar stadiums. The sweet reward will be a crack at the inaugural Big Ten crown in the warm, cozy confines of Lucas Oil Stadium and toting a conference championship home for the first time in 12 years.
