I have many fond memories of Navratri especially with the book keeping ceremony. Everything related to our education and arts like books, musical instruments would be kept to seek blessings of Goddess. We as students were always enthusiastic to keep books. The actual enthusiasm and happiness was not about seeking blessings from the goddess but that was the only time when no one asked us to study or even touch books. This navratri special recipe whole green gram sweet sundall was served in temples during that time as naivedyam or prasadam.
I still remember the long queue at the temple for this prasadam served in banana leaves. The whole green gram sweet sundall had a unique sweetness and divine taste; maybe because it was offered to goddesses first.
We used to keep our books at our tuition teachers house. After pooja tasty puris, mashed potato curry, whole green gram sweet sundall along with another savory chana or chickpea sundall would be served. Yummy is the word!! with time we started looking forward to this feast during every navratri.
Whole green gram sweet sundall or cherupayar sundall cab be given to babies above 8 months in the form of mash without adding coconut. For toddlers and kids, grated coconut can be added. My daughter loved this recipe and here I am Sharing it with you.
