On top of that, it was Guid Nychburris in Dumfries on Saturday. This is a bit of a tricky one to explain, but it translates as "Good Neighbours" and is a huge event in Dumfries where there is a parade, the "Queen of the South" is crowned with her attendants with a huge ceremony, there is a Riding of the Marches with hundreds of Horses, there's bagpipes and crowds of thousands of people.
Oh, not to mention the pubs are all open from first thing in the morning and people are allowed to drink alcohol in the streets - Great in Spain, not so much in Scotland! I'm not going to argue the rights and wrongs of the alcohol and all that yeehaw (personally, I think it's a day for children as well as adults and seeing drunk people in town at 11am is far from family friendly!) however, I will say that it's a fun and friendly day in general and so myself and the girls decided to celebrate.
We went to the Cavens arms for lunch and had a couple of drinks (in the afternoon!) then wandered through town and watched the festivities as we ate Ice Cream as we sat at the fountain in the town center. I even had my picture taken with Minne Mouse! It was such a lovely sunny day and we just loved seeing the town brought together.
On Saturday night, we avoided the town (drunk people galore!) and had a night in of drinks and food which was lovely.
Sunday of course was Fathers Day here in Scotland and so we spoiled our dad rotten and let him watch whatever he wanted on the television ALL NIGHT! sounds not too bad, but TOWIE was on at 10 pm and we had to wait for him to fall asleep to watch it LOL!
