My Top 5 Blogging Tips

When I saw the linky that the very beautiful and talented Kate from Kate Takes 5  was doing this week, I thought it about time I got involved.

Kate is asking bloggers to reveal what their Top 5 Blogging Tips are.

Here are my own Top 5 Blogging Tips:

1 – Don’t even start a blog

This has got to be my best tip to anyone. As soon as you start blogging your life stops. A note pad is always to hand and you can be found sat on the loo writing out short hand that means no sense when you later look to type up that great idea that came to you. Your social life vanishes, you become addicted to a stats counter and you start talking in a blogging kind of way. Everything you do, everyone you see becomes an idea for a blog post. Run while you can …

2 – Become an active member of the blog community

Look for like minded bloggers to follow and interact with on Twitter. Visit other blogs and comment, commenting can go a long way to gain some recognition when it comes to blogging. Join forums, get involved with the community on Twitter and other social networks. Blogging can feel lonely at times, its nice to know other bloggers are feeling the same way.

3 – Ask For Help

Take the opportunity that the blogosphere gives to bloggers by learning from others. If you stumble at a hurdle then ask. Most bloggers will happily answer your questions and help you.

4 – Learn Basic SEO

To enable you blog to reach its full potential, learning the very basic SEO is a must. Simple keywords can be a boost to your blog. There are many easy to follow articles written for you to gain further knowledge. Google Keywords are a great place to start.

5 – Be Prepared For Tears

Blogging will at some point reduce you to tears. Be it a post you spent days editing gets 1 hit or you receive criticism from another blogger, blogging can become very personal. My best advise is to remind yourself why you blog and what are your goals. Learn to accept criticism, you will never please everyone. Be yourself and never follow the crowd.
