I am often asked where to begin, food wise, and I always direct readers to THIS POST, one of the first I ever wrote. But I haven’t really posted about my top recommendations for making your home a healthier place to live.
There are a lot of products out there, but here are my top 3!
1. WATER FILTERS – drinking and shower OR whole house. This would be my absolute number one. Because of all of the contaminants found in tap water: pesticides, bacteria, chlorine, lead, pharmaceuticals, antibiotics, arsenic, fluoride, etc. I believe that pure water is absolutely essential to whole body wellness. Especially if you have children or immune-compromised individuals in your home.
my Royal Berkey water filter – removes the bad, leaves the good!
And it’s not just the water that you are putting IN your body that is important. Our skin is extremely absorbent, and the fumes created in a hot shower by the chemicals used to kill the harmful bacteria in it are very toxic. These issues can be solved with a whole house water filter (which we will be getting once we are home owners!). But in the meantime while we are still renting, I have invested in a Berkey water filter for drinking and cooking, and individual shower filters for each bathroom.
It is important to understand that not every filter is created equal. If you are interested in removing the harmful contaminants, while still preserving the good minerals found in the water, you will need a good filter like the Berkey or ProPure.
RO systems remove everything, even the good stuff, which can lead to mineral deficiencies. Sink-mount and pitcher filters remove some things, but most leave the chlorine, chloramines, and fluoride.
Also, Berkey does NOT filter out chloramines, so the ProPure would be your best bet if that is what your city uses in place of chlorine. For removing chloramines from your shower, you will need a Vitashower, as others only remove chlorine.
I have a great working relationship with Dan at United Environmental Solutions. He has worked tirelessly with my readers to find the best filters for their needs, troubleshoot any problems that have come up, and is just simply wonderful to work with! He will be able to pair you up with the best filters for your specific needs, based on the water quality report in your area. He will even custom build a whole house system tailored to fit your needs, at a lower cost than most “ready made” systems. Seriously can. not. wait. to get mine!
Because he is a wholesale dealer, you don’t pay extra for the middle man, meaning that the average whole house systems usually range from $2500-$3500, easily half of most other options out there!
You can contact him through his website www.ueswater.com or by calling him directly on his cell at 813-965-5109.

2. ESSENTIAL OILS & DIFFUSERS
This goes along with my post that I did on getting rid of toxic fabric softener. I would go ahead and encourage you to ditch any product in your home that contains the words “fragrance” or “perfume/parfum”. The good news is that you and your home can still smell fabulous without polluting the air and overloading your family’s bodies with toxins.
I LOVE, love Young Living Essential Oils. Their blends are my absolute favorite and I use them every day.
In place of candles, room sprays, and “plug-in’s” we diffuse essential oils in our home. It creates that “spa” smell in your home that beats artificial fragrance any day! And as opposed to harming your body, essential oils help to actually make you healthier by naturally cleansing the air, knocking out bacteria and viruses, improving mood and relaxation, and fighting illness, asthma, and allergies. Woo!

3. NON-TOXIC CLEANING PRODUCTS – so I’m sure you aren’t surprised to see this one on here. ”GREEN” cleaning products have been on the market since before I even knew what GMO’s were! I prefer to make my own because they are both cheap and easy…qualities only attractive in cleaning products, right? I’m guessing that I don’t need to go into all of the dangers of products like bleach, lysol, and other chemicals found in common cleaning products. The good news is that you can still get your home really, really clean, without polluting the air, harming the environment and killing marine life, and absorbing toxins into your bloodstream.
