Q: Please don’t judge or say horrible things but I’m worried. My son is two and a half and for the past almost year it looks like he humps his teddy bear. He lies it on the floor between his legs and really goes for it. If I tell him off he gets really upset about it and cries for ages. I dunno what to do. I ask him what he’s doing and he says ‘making monkey better’ I really don’t understand. Has anyone else’s child done this?
A; Actually there is nothing at all wrong with your son and his new love of humping his favorite object. It is very normal and very common, actually after speaking with many other mums it appears that boys seem to do this more than girls, its a boy thing.
The best way to deal with it is to ignore it, or distract once humping has began suggest he comes and helps you prepare lunch or take a walk to the park.
It may feel nice, it may make him feel secure and relaxed, im not inclined to believe there is anything sexual involved at all. But who knows it may just “feel nice” to run his nether regions against something soft.
