Moreover, during my Puerto Galera escapade; Curiosity is also the reason why I visited the “LANDMARKS”. Every time that I checked blogs about Galera, there are always two places associated with it – Jurassic Park and Rockwell. So I am very curious about it.
What about Jurassic Park?
Jurassic Park is a spot situated in white beach of Puerto Galera where-in cruising happens. It is located at the extremely end of the beach which is pointing to your right side when you are facing towards the sea. The place is a remote area wherein silence exists.Jurassic Park is a sea cliff that consists of three layers. The gays labelled it as the Ground floor, Second Level and the Third Level. Ground Floor is the area at the beach- in this area, majority of the gays will stay here since this is the safest part of the area. This is also the right place to find a prospect partner for the night and bring it to the second level or third level (but at the beach area there are also cruising). Adjacent to the beach area is the so called Second Level wherein there are few trees survives ( these trees are the only cover that hides the extraordinary happenings) – in this area this is the favorite place to those who did quickie things because there is a privacy as long as no one will attempt to climb to watch. And the top part of the cliff where the Third Level situated – this is the place for those who really want extreme cruising because it is totally private. You need to climb extremely using the vines and rocks just to watch what happened above. The name Jurassic Park is associated with the movie because you have to climb, crawl and etc just to reach and experience the safest part of the place (wherein you can do cruising privately) , just like a scene in the movie.
I conversed with a veteran cruiser and a friend of mine. “Sa ibaba, kaya madaming tao diyan dahil iyan ang lugar kung saan , jan naghahanap”He said. Due to scandalous occurred way back 2011, it became the hot topic of the authority that results on closing of the said spot Year 2012. The governance assigned barangay police to secure the area so that cruising will not happen anymore. “Grabe nga, minsan dati may mga nag flashlight na mga tanod at nanghuhuli diyan dati.” He added. But because of cruiser’s tactfulness, gays still find ways to do an adventure.

Meanwhile, since Puerto Galera is the Gay Mecca of the Philippines and majority of the visitors are gays; because of closing the “LANDMARKS”, the number of tourists decreased rapidly that cause low income of the local businesses. So the authorities opted this late 2013 to re-open the “Holy Place for Gays”.In addition, the place is not just for Gays, but Straight Men are also welcome. (Actually, straight men visit this place to observe and watch –sometimes they join- actually, you will not distinguish them who is gay, straight or bi)
What about Rockwell?
Rockwell is located at the extremely end part which is left side of the said beach when you are facing the sea. Yes, you heard it right; I am not referring the Rockwell which is located in Makati however I am speaking the Rockwell of Puerto Galera. It is another spot for cruising which became famous after closing the Jurassic Park. Gays find ways to have an alternative place for “booking” just to satisfy their feeling. That’s why the existence of the place arises.
Rockwell is based from the word “Batuhan” or simply rocky place. The spot devises more huge rock formations that provide the cruisers more private places. It’s like you own a cubicle once you mottled a perfect area that will cover your intimate moment- it is an advantage to those who are shy-type. But the place is danger because it is too dark and the rocks are slippery due to its algae. So I won’t advise you to go there if you are bit tipsy.
Moreover, “Batuhan” area is the entry point going to Tamaraw Beach Resort –it is a resort wherein socially inclined gays stay. These are more masculine and gorgeous gays and this Rockwell is accessible place for them to cruise. Indeed, Rockwell became the competitor of Jurassic Park with high value men.
“Kunti lang ang tao sa Batuhan pero quality ang mga nandun kaysa sa Jurassic Park” as my friend proudly says. What he did is hopping; he kept on checking prospects both the two endpoints of the beach. “ Palakad lakad lang ako sa magkabilang dulo, sa sobrang layo ng nilalakad ko, tanggal ang kalasingan ko”, he jokingly says.
In addition, Police Patroller is also having hard time to catch the cruisers due to its large and slippery rocks, so gays are safer here.
