Istanbul is a city with many layers, many personalities, full of character and so much to offer. I have this urgency to get to know this city and explore every corner. I have to remind myself that I must take it day by day. In Istanbul you can't be rushed to do anything fast. Well, first of all traffic, won't allow you, but it is the cup of Çay(Turkish Tea) you have around every corner, sometimes with strangers, that makes this journey so worthwhile.

Ataturk memorial in Taksim Square – Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is credited with being the founder of the Republic of Turkey. His surname, Atatürk, means 'Father of the Turks'.
Top right:
Hagia Sophia – From Cathedral to Mosque and now a Museum. Famous for its massive dome and a big tourist attraction in Istanbul.
Two bottom picture: This is my
Bosphorus. The place that I escape to, to breath! The Bosphorus has an amazing energy that makes me want to sit next to it forever.
My Istanbul in Food
Top left:
Halka at my local Cafe. It taste like a South African pastry called 'Koeksister'. It is syrupy and crunchy and reminds me of home.
Top right: My
Börek. Pastry filled with Cheese or Spinach or Meat. The meat is my favorite. I grab a Börek if I need something quick to eat.

Çay = Turkish Tea. It taste extra good out of these dainty glass cups.
Bottom right:
Durum. It is a soft wrap filled with slices of Chicken or Beef with lettuce, Tomato and Gurkin and then they add some crispy French Fries inside. I have to get my weekly fix of this. I can live on Durum alone!
My Istanbul in Wine
I am loving the Turkish wine! I get excited opening a bottle of Turkish wine. It is like visiting a different part of Turkey while sitting in my home, sipping a glass of wine. My daughter calls it 'Mommy's Juice'!
Enjoy my journey through Istanbul with me! More photos to follow in future posts.
If you enjoy my blog, please leave a comment. I would appreciate some feedback.
