Musing Monday
Description 'Musing Mondays' is a weekly event where MizB from Should Be Reading will ask a book/reading-related question, and you answer with your own thoughts on the topic.  Today's musing:
Have you ever found a book out of the blue, read it, and then had it be surprisingly good — one that stuck with you for years? If so, what book was it?  Musing MondayI have done this so many times. I often find books in charity shops and at jumble sales and second-hand book stores/fairs that I buy for the cover and end up loving. One particular time that sticks in my head was about a year ago when I was at a car-boot sale ( a fair where people sell stuff on stalls in a field by their cars basically!) and spotted a lone book on a stall. I loved the cover so I picked it up and paid 20p for it. It was 'The Gargoyle' by Andrew Davidson. After I bought it from the car-boot sale it festered on my shelf for a while; I thought it looked kinda trashy and the tagline 'Love as strong as death, as hard as hell' didn't appeal to me. However, quite a while later I was on Goodreads and decided to look it up. Everyone I knew who had read it had given it 5 stars. I instantly picked it up and started reading and after a page I knew I was going to love it. It is now one of my favorite books. It is absolutely brilliant and so memorable and unforgiving. So glad I picked I bought it on impulse!
