Muneeb Musthaq is the founder of AskforTask, a competitive, transparent marketplace for all methods of on-the-spot projects and chores. AskForTask makes it easy to post any sort of task online. Whether it is a quick errand you need help with, or a few hours of tough manual labor that could require a team of people, the company connects people to get their daily tasks and errands done, in a safe and reliable environment.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your company – what is AskForTask all about?

AskforTask is an online marketplace, where anyone can post an errand that they need completed around their home or office. Users post their “to-do list” items on our platform, and we locate another user who is best suited to complete the task based on their location, skills, and user-reviews/ratings.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your background and how you started your company?

While I was attending the University of Toronto, I noticed my friends and classmates were unable to land a steady job due to the large amount of hours that they needed to dedicate to their studies. With this in mind, I developed the idea of AskforTask for people like them, who are able to complete tasks around a flexible schedule to earn much-needed income whenever they need it.

Q: What are some of the projects you are working on right now?

Currently, we are developing our Android app and are expanding our user-base of “Taskers” to every Canadian city. While we are already available across Canada, we want to ensure that the demand for Tasks is met in every corner of the country.

Q: What are your plans for the future, how do you plan to grow this company?

We plan to expand AskforTask into the United States in the near future with the same success we have had in Canada. We plan on starting in select major cities and expanding from there.

Q: How do you bring ideas to life?

Through planning, testing and execution. We encourage every team member to bring fresh ideas to the table in regards to our platform. If the idea fits, we plan accordingly and test it out with a select sample of our audience and go from there. AskforTask’s best features have gone through this process.

Q: What’s one trend that really excites you?

Wearable tech excites me. In the future, it would be an effective method to send alerts to Taskers to have them complete tasks. It is a simple way to push information and locations in regards to tasks. If enough people start wearing smart watches, it could be an effective means to communicate with our users.

Q: What were the top 3 mistakes you made starting your business and what did you learn from it?

Three mistakes I made were wanting to make our product perfect, focusing too much on scaling, and being apprehensive about pivoting. I talk about these mistakes in detail here: but in short, mistakes are inevitable. If you surround yourself with the right people and stay level headed, the likelihood of making any rash decisions you may regret in the future is lessened greatly.

Q: How do you go about marketing your business, and what has been the most successful form of marketing for you?

AskforTask markets mainly through word of mouth, which is why we interact with our users so attentively. We know that people will get on their phones and tell their friends “Hey, I found this great way to make money.” This has by far been our most successful way to grow. Once people use AskforTask they love it, so we have team members reaching out and connecting with users every day.

Q: What would you say are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur – and why?

Perseverance, dedication and common sense.

Persevere with your idea; if you don’t believe in it, neither will anyone else.

Dedicate yourself in order to be successful. You must eat, sleep and breathe your company.

Lastly, use common sense. “Would I use this product?” “What advantages does this product give me that I can’t find elsewhere?”

Put yourself in the shoes of the consumer and answer any questions you would have if you were in their position. A surprising amount of entrepreneurs do not do this.

Q: What are three books you recommend entrepreneurs to read?

The Fountain Head is the first, after I heard Mark Cuban recommend it I decided to take a look, and it is pretty empowering for a budding entrepreneur.

Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaacson is a great read because Franklin started from nothing and became a founding father, you can’t make much more of an impact than that.

Lastly, I really enjoy The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton. It is a what’s what on financial planning, and an important read for not only entrepreneurs, but everyone if you ask me.

Q: What is your favorite entrepreneurship quote?

A great quote I read recently from Sir Richard Branson goes:

“Don’t think what’s the cheapest or fastest way to do it, think ‘what’s the most amazing way to do it?

Q: How can our community get in touch with you?

Night or day anyone can call 1-844-275-8275. To get in touch with me directly reach out to me on Twitter @MuneebMushtaq. I love hearing feedback from users and fellow entrepreneurs.
