Mozilla has announced their first developer preview smartphone, running on the new Firefox OS. They were developed by Geeksphone, hoping to give a head start for all the tech geeks to try out this device first before release and start developing apps.
Two Firefox OS-loaded models were officially announced by Mozilla. The Keon model (shown on left), which comes with a 1Ghz Snapdragon S1 CPU, 512mb RAM and 3.5-inch HVGA screen. As for the other model, The Peak (shown on right) has a 1.2Ghz x2 Snapdragon S4 CPU, 512mb RAM and 4.3-inch qHD IPS display. Both these phones comes unlocked and works with HTML5 apps as well.
As you can see on the video and preview shots, The Keon model’s display looks extremely bright and it makes most of those app icons barely visible to the naked eye.
“It’s a balance between pricing, battery life and a number of other factors. We aim to make the user experience a good one with this resolution as well.” Robert Nyman, Editor of Mozilla-Hacks said in a comment regarding low-specs and screen resolution of this device, hinting that this device would probably head out with a cheaper price tag.
According to Nyman, Firefox OS Developer Preview Phone will arrive in February 2013. In the mean time check out the hands-on video from Los Angeles Times for a closer look.
