I mean, if you haven't heard of this movie or book, please, please, go away.My Thoughts: I actually saw this movie weeks ago, but have been trying to finalize my feelings about it, but now I think I am ready to talk about it. This movie was good, not great, but good. There were some parts I found cheesy, like Hazel and Augustus staring at each other constantly at support group. It was not very natural and awkward and it didn't work well. Also, when Augustus was explaining his cigarette metaphor, very awkward. I know the kids are different and not like normal kids, but it just seemed like it did not fit at all. I liked the scenes when you just see him with the cigarette in their mouths without much attention being drawn to it. I understand the people who did not read the book wouldn't understand it without explanation, but they could have cleaned it up a bit. Some scenes did not translate well to the screen, but others did. The broken trophies scene was perfect. It was hilarious, yet you could still feel what was going on. There were more funny moments than I thought would be there. Like the egging scene was pretty funny as well. I feel like that was the scene that was exactly from the book. It was very Green of them.Acting, great. Shailene Woodley was great, of course. But some people are criticizing Anzel, but I actually really liked him. He was adorable and awkward a lot in the movie, but it was a different showing of Augustus. IT WAS HIS TAKE ON AUGUSTUS and I liked that. Peter Van Houten was great as well. I wasn't expecting him to be that good, but he was. I also did not expect WILLEM FREAKING DEFOE. And last but not least, the ending...It was very lighthearted and that was unexpected as well. I expected a big show of his death at the end, but it was not like it wasn't mentioned, it wasn't the basis of the end. It happened and life began to move on. Good movie, not a great movie, but it was good and I highly recommend it to anyone who's read the book or not.
