Movie Review: Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)Summary: Jesse and his friends start experiencing weird things after one of his neighbors die. Soon, they realize a demon has marked Jesse and it is only a matter of time before it takes over him.

My Thoughts: This was a different kind of Paranormal Activity and this one just happens to now be my favorite one. Reasons for that being that it wasn't like the other movies. It was marketed differently, it was written a bit differently, but the story was similar. A ghost/spirit possesses someone and people are trying to figure out what's going on, but this movie was funny and had some really original ideas. One of these ideas would be how the ghost communicates with the people with protecting Jesse or answering questions asked by Jesse and his friend by a children's toy. Going into it, I thought, " This better apply somehow to the story or I'm going ballistic. I don't care. It just better tie SOMETHING together." It didn't whatsoever, but I'm okay with that. Some people found that aspect stupid, I found it innovative.

Besides the fresh ideas and easygoing plot, what really made movie work was the character development. After meeting Jesse and his friends, I saw a friendship I had with my friends. I felt for them and I had a bond with them. I was interested not in finding out the outcome of the curse and what this movie had to do with the franchise anymore, I was focused on what the hell Jesse and Hector were going to do.
What I did not like was how the story was so condensed. The characters are supposed to be silly, yes, but the story was all over the place and hard to follow, making it silly. Silly characters can be put in a serious situation, but when they're put in a silly situation to boot, that's a bad mix coming up. The character development and their actions kind of made up for it though.
Otherwise, great movie if you know what you're going into and are just watching for fun. I'm so glad I didn't pay 10 bucks to go see it even though it wasn't that bad. But wasn't that bad means it wasn't that good either.
