Ginger (Isabelle) and Brigitte (Perkins) are sisters who share a strong bond, along with an interest in morbid photography. But on the night when Ginger experiences her first period she’s attacked by a wild animal, and subsequently experiences some strange changes.
Ginger Snaps is a good horror about werewolves. The director parallels puberty with a wolf attack and this gives the film good opportunities for humour, which it grabs with open arms. The two leads give good performances. I liked how they both developed over the course of the film, and yet their sisterly bond was always present. The gore was done well and a few of the scenes were very horrific. I liked the effects used for the werewolf as well. It could easily have come off as cartoonish but I thought with the lighting used it was actually menacing.
If you like teen movies and horrors then this is a good one for you.
