For a Good Time, Call… Katie (Graynor) and Lauren (Miller) because the two women have set up a phone sex hotline, after they have been forced to live together by their mutual friend Jesse (Long).
This is pretty much entertaining fluff, and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way. If you’re not comfortable with the idea of people working as phone sex operators and you don’t want to watch a lot of orgasm noises then don’t watch this film. I actually thought it handled the material with maturity and it didn’t devolve into tired innuendos and smutty one-liners. At first I had my concerns because the two lead characters seemed to be annoying and Justin Long was camping it up all over the place. Thankfully Long disappeared for most of the film and the two main characters settled down. The friendship that developed between them felt authentic and genuine, and it was fun to see how it progressed through the movie.
There are a couple of celebrity cameos too, which I won’t spoil here. It’s not really a film I can write a great deal about but it’s an enjoyable watch and the way it handled the material feels fresh. Sex comedies should take a cue from this one.
