“Mother” : The Only Word Still Being Undefined

Posted on the 30 January 2015 by Ssankarr

Even today in many forms when it is asked about "mother's occupation"; many fill it up as "Not Working". Sorry, wrong entry.

"She is not working" is the answers of many husbands when they are asked about their spouse occupation. If she is not working then who is cooking in home? If she is not working then who is dropping the kids in school? If she is not working then who is washing clothes, who is cleaning kitchen utensils, who is doing daily shopping for the home??? If she is not working then who is managing the home?

I have been prompted to write this blog post to promote the intention of putting an end to the one-dimensional labels that limit any woman's potential. But I would say that woman had never been limited by one-dimensional label. She simultaneously being a mother, wife, sister and daughter accomplishes the responsibilities of all the roles at the same time with no complain. Any home is balanced, active and happy only because she is there who makes it possible. It is the fault of this male dominating society who has misinterpreted the multidimensional roles of a woman by assigning an one dimensional label to her as " House Wife" and describing her as " Not Working ".

This post is on the theme "Things that define me" for the campaign #UseYourAnd. Though I know this would be an unsuccessful attempt of defining a lady who is my mother, because this particular role of a woman can never be defined, but still I thought this is the best platform to express my gratitude towards my mother.

Pack my and kids lunchboxes. Give me my tie.

Maa, comb my hair. I have to get ready for my college.

Mom, I need noodle in my breakfast. Please arrange my schoolbag. I am getting late.

Give me a glass of boiled water.

This is how everyday morning session of my mother was getting defined in my school days before 15 years. And nothing much changed even today, though me and my sister are not there in home now a days. The intensity of the morning session definition might give an idea to estimate the activities of other sessions of the day. Still I never find her tired in managing the home and most importantly managing the lazy I and my lazy Sis

“Mother” : The only Word still being Undefined

My mother as a daughter-in-law took all the care of my grand father like a daughter till he said good bye to the world. My mother as a wife probably had never allowed my father to think about the management of the home. And surely my father never hesitate to admit my mother's contribution toward the development of our home.

It is definitely very difficult to explain the roles of my mother as a mother. Today my existence is because of her (of-course my father has equal contribution to this). She waked me up in the morning, she pushed me for having exercise everyday, she helped me doing my homework, she saved me from papa after late hours play, she taught me to be behaved and many more. Though all these seem very simple, I would love to say she has done all these continuously for eighteen years and she had made me what I am today.

I would take the privilege to dedicate this post to all those mothers who work in home and are tagged to an one-dimensional label as " House Wife ". I am sure you play the multidimensional roles for multiple members of your family.
