Austin based neo-soul quartet Motenko keep it smooth on their fist singles. On Your Level is a throwback to the late sixties Motown sound, with the piano as the lead instrument and upbeat brass section trying to convince the listener that it all will work out fine in the end. Silhouette is a slow song, with a late night vibe. Singer Micah Motenko is feeling down and lonely, but "with my eyes closed, you’re here".
The band is made up from seasoned veterans, who can connect seamlessly. Which is great, but a little bit of rawness would have made more interesting. Less polish and more grain leaves an impression that lasts longer.
