Monticello, Indiana: Johns Bakery and Cafe

Johns Bakery and Cafe handles the breakfast and lunch crowd with an assortment of omelets and sandwiches that range from burgers to breaded or grilled pork tenderloin. Changing daily specials keep things interesting.

But the real star here, the thing that keeps locals coming back, is their world famous Biscuits and Gravy.

I’ve heard that this is really good stuff–and that I’ve got to make it a point to pop in and try it! But, hubs and I were in the mood for something lighter. Doughtnuts!

This Indiana bakery had a few dougnut varieties that I hadn’t seen before. Hubs and I had to choose from quite the assortment. The usual favorites are there as well as a couple of fun options like coconut crunch, maple with peanuts on it and maple without peanuts on it…and plenty more!

Wow were they delicious! The coconut crunch donut was very sweet–and would be the perfect accompaniment to a hot cup of coffee.

You’ll have to get there early, though. These go rather fast! Since breakfast is served anytime, you can sleep in and still have a late breakfast!

It’s hard to believe but this small Indiana town doesn’t have one but two bakeries! Is that amazing or what?

Located at opposite ends of the town, both have different menu options and are very different in atmosphere. See for yourself–and let me know your favorite menu item in the comments below.
