Money necklace DIYMoney necklace DIYWelcome to June friends! June is my absolute favorite month of the year. Yes, it's my birthday month, but it also means the longest day of the year, Midsummer, sunshine--and you know that I love nothing more than talking about good weather. June also means graduation and I've been trying to think of a fun way to give money, because really, that's all we should be giving to graduates--they need it! They'd especially love it in larger sized bills and my birthday is coming up and I'd love the same thing. Just a thought.
Money necklace DIYI think origami is a bit easier to learn by watching so we made a little video to go with it:
But check out the full instructions below, with pictures, to see how to do it.

I adapted this tutorial from a tutorial by Lisa Shea (check out her origami tutorials here)
Materials: 3 bills per flower, floral wire, wire cutters or scissors, crepe or tissue paper, glue gun
Step 1: Fold the dollar bill in half.Step 2: Fold the end in about 1/4" in on each side.Step 3: Fold the corner in to the center fold. Do this to each corner.Step 4: Fold the top down to the center line. Repeat to the other side.Step 5: Do this to two more bills.Step 6: With a piece of floral wire, secure the three bills together.Step 7: Flatten the "petals" out.
To make the center of the flower:Step 1: Crumple some tissue or crepe paper together.Step 2: Make a square about 3" at each length and wrap it around the crumpled ball and twist it closed.Step 3: Glue the twisted end shut.Step 4: Glue the ball to the wire found on the flower.
To make the necklace form:Step 1: Use wire to create the form of the necklace. Find out how long you want it, snip it, then twist the ends shut.Step 2: Create a triangle from another piece of wire and attach it to the bottom of the necklace. Secure by twisting the wire around itself.Step 3: Cut crepe paper about 1/2" wide going against the grain and then twist it around the necklace form.Step 4: Twist the flowers individually onto the form and secure.
